3D Tour

The Crown Jewel atop Fremont’s Most distinguished neighborhoods.

Turn into the drive and view the jaw-dropping beauty of this 19th-Century home nestled in the hills of Fremont and surrounded by its own pastures and trees. Then venture up the stairs to the wide covered porch providing deep shade on warm summer days and panoramic views and  room to entertain outdoors year round.

From inside the house or on the wrap-around porch, relax with views of the San Francisco Bay from San José in the south to Redwood City on the Peninsula. Watch clouds rush in across the Coastal Range and fill the sky as storms approach.

Classic Victorian architechture and stunning views create a property that evokes Old California heritage and a sense of the romance of another time. This house was once the manse of a 30,000-acre estate of gardens, vineyards, a winery and a distillery owned and operated by Don Juan Gallegos, the immigrant son of the president of Costa Rica. The extensive distillery was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, but the house survived.

Possibilities abound for this lovingly restored Victorian:

  • Keep horses and ride  the equestrian trails of Sonol Regional Park.
  • Relax and entertain in the privacy of your executive home.
  • Create a club house for a 3-acre development.
  • Plant a new vineyard around this estate home.
  • Utilize as a venue for weddings and events.

A Home with a History

In 1881, Juan Gallegos, whose father had been the president of Costa Rica, immigrated to California. Don Gallegos purchased the estate, formerly 30,000 acres of Mission San José land, and raised the profile of the area’s wineries like no other producer had done.

Gallegos would become the first Central American wine maker in California.  He built his garden estate near the old Mission, as well as a palatial winery and distillery.  The Gallegos Winery and Distillery was one of the first gravity-fed wineries in the state and included man-made cave cellars and its own cooperage.  From the Mission Era through the late 19th Century, the Latin presence in wine making was represented in southern Alameda County.

Windows Reaching Nearly to the Ceiling Flood the Living Areas with Light.

Walk through the beautifully leaded front door into the parlor and the sitting room that flows into the dining room.  Windows reach nearly to the 11-foot ceilings, and a fireplace warms the parlor.  Light floods this spacious living area that looks out over pastures and meadows to the San Francisco Bay

Drive Home Past Crowded Neighborhoods to the Privacy of Hills and the Quiet of Open Space.

At the end of the day, at the top of the road turn up the drive into the peace of your home retreat. An endless kaleidescope of changing skies will provide the background to your evening of relaxation. Entertain on the spacious porch or the dramatic living areas.  Make the large kitchen your own. Explore the meadows, pastures and hillsides that enfold and embrace this rare acreage surviving in Silicon Valley. Romance, relaxation and discovery await you as you enjoy the natural surroundings of this property.  Make Casa Gallegos Casa [your name here.]
